SOME THOUGHTS ON AUGUST, 13, 2020

1. We seem to focus on programming the mind to manage "failures"-- thereby weaving a safety net for poverty not only to be protected but to grow; whereas perhaps a right approach would be to tune our mind to manage "success" and look at poverty as an impediment to growth.

2. So far, Hindi film "Tamas" (released in 1988) has been the longest -- 2 minutes short of 5 hours. Film"LoC Kargil", released in 2003, was also a long picture, running for 255 minutes. So was the celebrated film "Mera Naam Joker", released in 1970 that was 244 minute long. For years, however, television serials running short episodes almost daily has been conditioning viewers' mind . Mind is getting tuned to watching about 25 minute long episodes. In many cases, span of attention is shrinking. This is the reason why watching a film is not interesting for me- average length of a film being about 100 minutes.

3. Let our biggest temptation not be to keep within us the knowledge we have. Ancient India's wise have been believers in sharing knowledge. They passed on knowledge from one generation to the next through "Shruti". This Indian legacy must continue. An educated Nation is always a strong one ; it ensures holistic development, both of mind and material.

4. Let's not revert to relaxing mode. The vaccine against COVID 19 , to be available to you and me, is still months away. Let's be optimistic ; but we should be realistic as well. It pays to keep the seat belt in a fastened mode. We may be hit by turbulence suddenly.
