"Why do we confine individual and/ or collective display of patriotism to just two days in a year of 365 days !!" wondered a girl, now doing her graduation in a Delhi College, who was just two years old and her sister , an infant of four months, when her 21 year old mother saw the body of her husband, martyred in the battlefield. The brave mother has faced life all alone; has been grooming both her daughters. The great lady looked serene and sublime; her persona displayed pride for his husband, who, she said, had lived for his country. There was no trace of rancour nor grief when she spoke yesterday in a popular television show. The elder daughter continued with her plea, " Why don't each of you visiting places of worship like a temple almost daily and praying, place just one Diya in memory of those who defended our country and laid down their lives !! " She plans to join our Armed Force after completing her education.
I don't disapprove of the social media euphoria on the two days in a year; but why not go by what the young girl urged us to do ? Let us be respectful and helpful to our serving and retired soldiers, their families, let us demonstrate our love and respect for our flag everyday. Let it fly in every home, every day, for ever.
