REMEMBERING A LEGACY

Despite the various imperfections in the working of our political system, the dynamics of our society did pitchfork a Dalit lady to lead an important political Party and made her the Chief Minister of the most populous state of India. We tend to remember her, Mayawati, a Dalit lady of courage, and prefer to forget or remember him for yet some other reason, another Chief Minister of the same state, a Brahmin, ND Tiwari.

Some may question her wisdom and financial prudence for the statues and parks she built at government expense. I view the Yamuna Expressway she built as her legacy. A bold lady's tribute to the Monument Of Love, the Taj Mahal. We were stuck with Cuttack-Paradip Highway for years. And this ODISHA HIGHWAY looks a pygmy in comparison with the Yamuna Expressway. Besides the Elephants, Mayawati left this legacy for posterity.

The Yamuna Expressway is 165 kms long and cuts down travel time from Delhi to Agra by half. The Expressway is said to be the longest access controlled road in the country.
